Answer: Located south of Williamson County in Middle Tennessee, Maury County was an important area during the American Civil War.  In the early period of this war, it was the site of The Battle of Fishing Creek. This battle happened where Confederate forces have been defeated by Union troops. The exact place where these battles have taken place is situated between Columbia and Big Lick Creek, near Columbia’s Fort Granger. Forty miles southwest of Nashville, the county seat of Maury is Columbia, an industrial center and distribution point on the south branch of the Duck River. First settled in 1796 by John Crockett, son of Davy Crockett, Columbia was incorporated as a town in 1813 and as a city in 1851. The foothills of the Appalachian Mountains rise to the west and south. Other communities located in Maury County include Spring Hill (home to a General Motors manufacturing facility) and Mount Pleasant.
